The Janet Jackson song that goes “What have you done for me lately?” is playing in my head this morning. I don’t know what made it pop into my brain but I know my subconscious is at work. I intended to write a blog this morning and I realize this is the perfect subject. Amazing how that works!
Sometimes it is appropriate to ask another person what they’ve done for you lately, but it’s even more important to check in with yourself on that issue. In the often frantic pace of our daily lives, I find that we rarely take quiet time for ourselves to check in and see what it is that we need. Checking in doesn’t have to take a lot of time, it can simply be a few quiet minutes in the morning, or perhaps even while sitting at your desk during the day. And then take action!
Take Care of Yourself
- Take a walk or a bike ride.
- Call a friend.
- Read a book–just for fun.
- Go to the gym.
- Take a class.
- Take a bath.
- Listen to music.
- Eat slowly and really enjoy what you’re eating.
- Dance.
- Get a massage or a facial.
- Turn off the phone. Turn off the computer. Turn off the television. Take a break.
- Volunteer. (I know it sounds like this is about you doing something for someone else, but volunteering is one of the best ways to feel good about yourself.)
And, of course, if you’re not sure what it is that you need, hypnosis is a great way to find the answers. Hypnosis provides a way to quiet the chatter box in your mind and to really get in touch with your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs and how best to meet them!
You know, the lyrics of the song continue “I never ask for more than I deserve.”
